At Avianca we have actions focused on preserving resources and alleviating the impact of our air operations. Learn more about some of them.


1. We have one of the youngest and most efficient aircraft fleets in the region and we are currently making progress in the reconfiguration of our passenger cabins to increase their capacity by 20% and have a greener operation, reducing the carbon footprint for each transported customer . In addition, we are implementing fuel efficiency initiatives on aircraft that directly reduce CO2 emissions.

2. Our Aeronautical Maintenance Hangar -MRO- located in Rionegro, Antioquia, is LEED(R) GOLD -Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design- GOLD certified, as its construction and operation aim to reduce the carbon footprint through:

• Use of natural lighting.
• Water saving systems
• Clean energy as more than 40% of the energy consumed comes from solar panels installed on the roof of the building.

This hangar is the only one with this certification in the region.

3. Since 2017, we offset emissions through the purchase of carbon credits in projects with high social and environmental impact, thta promote the protection of strategic areas of the Colombia. By the end of 2021, we offsetted more than 3 million tons of CO2 which is equivalent to 70% of the total emissions generated in our domestic operation in the country during these 5 years, managing to compensate in 2017 and 2018 the total CO2 emissions generated by airplanes in Colombia.

For the fifth consecutive year, we are part of the international organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which measures the environmental management of companies worldwide, in our case we participate in the "climate change" approach. In 2021, we obtained a B Management level, which reflects the coordinated actions we have taken as a company on climate change, as well as our commitment and transparency in managing the impact of our activities. We are the highest-ranked airline in Latin America in this measurement.

We are among the first 100 companies in Colombia that are part of the Carbon Neutrality Program established by the Colombian Ministry of Environment. Our objective is to contribute as an airline to the reduction and mitigation of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and contribute to the fulfillment of the goals that the country has set in this area for 2030 and 2050.
